Mamre Brook

Mamre Brook is one of the most famous places in the Barossa Valley and the wines, featuring the grand old Mamre Brook house on the label, are among Australia’s favourites. Built in 1844, Mamre Brook is the original house at the Saltram winery and for six generations it has been the home of Saltram’s chief winemaker including current winemaker Nigel Dolan and before him his father, Brian.

The Mamre Brook wines stand proud as a tribute to their heritage at the heart of the Barossa with all fruit sourced exclusively from this great region. The Mamre Brook wines are characterised by their warmth and generosity – much the same as the welcome people have received at the house for more than 150 years.

	Saltram Mamre Brook Riesling 2004 is a new addition to this much loved family of wines. Small individual parcels of Riesling were carefully selected from vineyards throughout the Barossa and the Eden Valley. Each parcel was gently tank fermented, giving the wine a fresh fruit style. This delicate Riesling displays complex aromas of lemon grass and spice with a hint of ‘tea-leaf.’ The palate is driven by citrus and melon flavours, enhanced with clean acidity and an elegant finish.
	Saltram Mamre Brook Chardonnay is a rich and full bodied tribute to this marvellous variety. All fruit for this wine is sourced from the Barossa and the resultant wine has all of the classic aromas of melon, peach and nectarine together with light barrel ferment characters. The wine is full bodied, layered with tropical fruit flavours balanced by a backbone of oak. The finish is rewardingly long and generous.
	This wine pays homage to the original Mamre Brook wines and is made in open topped fermenters capturing all of the ripe generous characters of Cabernet Sauvignon such as plum, dark berries and chocolate. The palate is richly layered, portraying concentrated mulberry and black berry fruit flavours with fine tannins and an exceptionally long finish. This wine can be enjoyed over the next 10 years.
	Saltram Mamre Brook Shiraz is a rich Barossan wine of great depth and intensity. The nose shows intense dark berry and plum with hints of cassis and chocolate. On the palate the wine offers generous and rich characters of fleshy dark berry fruit, liquorice with some spice and vanilla oak characters complimented by fine softly textured tannins. This wine will continue to improve with cellaring over the next five to eight years.
