SALTRAM MAMRE BROOK 2003 REDS STAY TRUE
TO SALTRAM PHILOSOPHY

The release of the Saltram's 2003 Mamre Brook Cabernet Sauvignon and 2003 Mamre Brook Shiraz have been made with respect for the vintage and the great Barossa region.

Saltram Senior Winemaker, Nigel Dolan, has a special connection to these wines, considering he currently lives in the great Mamre Brook House with his family. In fact, Mamre Brook House was built by founder, William Salter in the 1850s and has provided a home to every Saltram Winemaker ever since. It stands as a symbol of the Saltram brand and a welcoming and inviting presence to wine lovers who appreciate the reliability and consistency of this great range of wines.

Saltram Mamre Brook wines have a resolve to represent Saltram and the Barossa region with integrity and panache.

The 2002 vintage from the Barossa has been widely reported as a blockbuster, and the 2002 Mamre Brook reds collected numerous awards, so there is considerable anticipation surrounding the 2003 vintage release.

“The 2003 vintage was pretty warm, which can make it difficult to get slowly ripened fruit. The relatively stressful conditions meant that yields were slightly down, but there was certainly still considerable quality available,” he said.

“Selectivity was critical to get the very best of the vintage, and we make sure we make this wine up to standard –it’s very important to us, and to me personally. I for one am looking forward to seeing these wines compete on the Australian wine show circuit this year.”

The Mamre Brook 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz have been released not long after the 2002 release due to the immense and growing popularity of these wines and their over-delivery of quality for the price-point.

Saltram 2003 Mamre Brook Shiraz is dark red in colour with soft purple hues. This wine shows richly concentrated aromas of liquorice, blackberry and spicy clove. This wine displays dark berry fruit and smoky vanilla oak characters supported by silky firm tannins and the great depth of the palate. This exceptionally generous wine finishes with an impressive length of flavour.

Saltram 2003 Mamre Brook Cabernet Sauvignon is rich, intense purple red in colour. This wine displays complex aromas of plump dark berries and chocolate. The richly layered, well-structured palate offers concentrated mulberry and blackberry flavours, fine tannins and excellent length.

For both wines, the use of the original winery vineyards in Angaston, South Australia, is the backbone to maintaining consistency of Mamre Brook wines throughout the vintages. However, both wines source fruit from a variety of vineyards from the Barossa which provides Nigel with the flexibility to pick and choose the best fruit and create nuance and multiple dimensions to the wine.

Nigel Dolan is very confident that loyal followers of Saltram Mamre Brook will not be disappointed by these latest releases.

Saltram Mamre Brook 2003 Shiraz and Saltram Mamre Brook 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon are available now and have an RRP of $22-24
