Overview

Overview

Eden Valley has long been an important Barossa subregion from which Saltram has sourced ultra-premium parcels of fruit. This wine was sourced from a single vineyard within the Moculta district of Eden Valley, and is the embodiment of what this unique vineyard landscape can express. This vineyard produces wine with lush flavours, intense concentration, yet is extremely elegant to drink. Unique in style and extremely limited in production, it is only released from vintages of the highest quality. A wine for collectors and the 2010 wines are proving that this has been an exceptional year for the Barossa.

Note: The tasting note reflects the wine when it was tasted in 2010 upon its release. It has since evolved and developed further complexity following years of careful bottle maturation in our cellars.
Our winemaking team have recently tasted this wine and confirmed its condition. It is drinking beautifully today showcasing intriguing aged characteristics that can only be derived with the passage of time.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS

The 2009/2010 growing season in the Barossa began with early budburst, reflecting the warmest winter on record. A cool, wet spring saw slow vine growth, however this was followed by a heatwave in early November, with temps over 40C. A generous spring rain followed which revitalised the vineyards. Weather then stayed relatively mild, allowing the vines to develop strong healthy canopies and good balance. Ripening progressed quickly, resulting in a condensed, early harvest. The 2010 wines are proving that this has been an exceptional year for the Barossa.

MATURATION

This wine was matured in seasoned and new French oak vats with a small balance matured in New French oak barrels. Maturation in larger vats enables the rich tannins to soften and complex over time while ensuring the individual characteristics of the vineyard are not overwhelmed.
